Shanghai, China, September 23, 2022——Vale and Chenxin Heavy Industries (Jiangsu) Co., Ltd. ("Chenxin Heavy Industries") signed an agreement today on the supply of steel structures for the construction project of the new railway bridge on the Tocantins River in Brazil.
The agreement was jointly signed by Mr. Antonio Cardoso, Procurement Director of Vale China, and Mr. Shi Yunlong, Chairman of Chenxin Heavy Industry, in Shanghai this afternoon. According to the agreement, Chenxin Heavy Industries will supply approximately 8600 tons of steel structures to Vale for the construction of a new railway bridge over the Tocantins River in Brazil.
The new railway bridge over the Tocantins River is 2.3 kilometers long and will be built above the Tocantins River in Malaba, Par á state. There is an old railway bridge on the Tocantins River, which is part of the Caracas Railway (EFC). The new railway bridge will be built 300 meters upstream of the old railway bridge, which will turn the 47-48 section of Karajas Railway into a double track.
The Karagas Railway is operated by Vale and connects the northern operational area of Vale located in the Karagas region of Para state with the Madeira Port of Vale located in Saint Louis, Maranh ã o. The main cargo transported by this railway is iron ore. After the completion of the new railway bridge, it will enhance the transportation capacity of the Karagas Railway, improve the traffic flow of the railway, and reduce commercial risks.
“Vale is taking multiple measures to restore its iron ore production capacity and continuously supply high-quality iron ore products to China. Improving the logistics capacity of the northern system is one of the key measures to achieve our medium - and long-term production goals. We are pleased to have new Chinese partners join this important journey. We believe that this will further consolidate our nearly half century partnership with China and set another example for win-win cooperation between Brazil and China, the two BRICS countries”said Mr. Ankai.
Mr. Shi Yunlong stated that this cooperation will be an important turning point in the development process of Chenxin Heavy Industry, which will enable Chenxin Heavy Industry to achieve significant progress and improvement.
